Programs and Services

Nurturing Parenting

Picture
This evidence based Nurturing Parenting program is offered for 10 weeks and is designed for parents and their children aged 5 - 11.  This program is offered two times throughout the year.  The class has been proven to help treat and prevent the recurrence of child abuse and neglect.  This class also teaches parents how to encourage appropriate behaviors, increase empathy, and improve self esteem in their children.

Early ID & Referral System

Picture
The Gratiot County Substance Abuse Coalition is striving to provide assistance to agencies, schools, and families in problem identification screening and referrals.  This program is designed to identify youth at the early onset of risky behaviors.  Referrals can be made for youth who are exhibiting chronic school discipline, attendance concerns, or concerning behavior at home, etc.

Screenings are free of charge
.  The screenings take approximately 45 minutes - one hour.  Included in the screening is a risk and protective factor assessment and other assessments based upon the behavior being addressed.

Screenings are done at Community Mental Health by a licensed counselor.  Youth and families are then referred to a program that best fits their needs.

For more information on this program or to make a referral, contact Justin Charping - Community Mental Health - at (989) 466-4171 to set up a screening.

Above the Influence Campaign

GCSAC is collaborating with area schools to provide an Above the Influence campaign to youth in Gratiot County.  The campaign is designed to bring awareness of positive and negative influences that can affect the youth in our communities.  The campaign gives students tools they need to rise above negative influences.
