The Gratiot County Substance Abuse Coalition is at work on several programs and strategies to reduce the misuse and abuse and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
Nurturing Parenting
Evidence based Nurturing Parenting program is offered for 10 weeks and is designed for parents and their children aged 5 – 11 by Child Advocacy. It is offered two times throughout the year. The class has been proven to help treat and prevent the recurrence of child abuse and neglect. It also teaches parents how to encourage appropriate behaviors, increase empathy, and improve self esteem in their children.
Choices Program
Five week early intervention program is offered through the Juvenile Court for parents and their children aged 12 - 17 who have experimented with alcohol, marijuana, or other drugs. Participants learn about risk and protective factors and are empowered to address necessary changes to improve the family.
ID & Referral System
This program is designed to identify youth at the early onset of risky behaviors. Youth complete a screening and then are referred to approprate support based on need.
