Like most communities, underage drinking - and other drug use - impact the youth in their community. Here are some facts taken from the Prevention Needs Assessment in November 2008. The Good
- 82% of Gratiot County 6th graders choose NOT to drink.
- 58% of Gratiot County 8th graders choose NOT to drink.
- 40% of Gratiot County 10th graders choose NOT to drink.
- 23% of Gratiot County 12th graders choose NOT to drink.
- In the last 30 days, 72% of Gratiot County 10th graders have chosen NOT to drink.
- In the last 30 days, 58% of Gratiot County 12th graders have chosen NOT to drink.

The Bad
- 18% of Gratiot County 6th graders have used alcohol at least once in their lifetime.
- 42% of Gratiot County 8th graders have used alcohol at least once in their lifetime.
- 60% of Gratiot County 10th graders have used alcohol at least once in their lifetime.
- 77% of Gratiot County 12th graders have used alcohol at least once in their lifetime.
The Ugly
- 6th graders who have used alcohol began at an average age of 10.3 years old.
- 18% of Gratiot County 8th graders who drank alcohol got it at home with parent permission.
- 16.5% of Gratiot County 10th graders had 5 or more alcoholic drinks in a row in the past two weeks.
- 27.5% of Gratiot County 12th graders had 5 or more alcoholic drinks in a row in the past two weeks
